You may find yourself hesitating in the decision-making process, pondering which dog would be the right fit for your family. I won’t make that decision for you; it’s something you’ll have to determine. Keep in mind that a dog can live for 12-15 years, so consider this when making your choice.
Owning a dog entails a lifestyle change, particularly if you’re not an active person. If you return home from work and prefer a sedentary lifestyle in front of a screen, a dog may not be the best choice for you. Except if you want to change your lifestyle. Every dog has a fundamental need for exercise and regular walks. If you comprehend this and can commit to two walks a day, a lengthy and joyful life for your dog awaits.
For instance, the morning walk can be brief before heading to work, focusing on meeting their basic needs (toilet). However, in the evening, it’s crucial to provide your dog with exercise. Consider the benefits of a daily short walk, not just for your dog but also for your overall health. A walk is the best stress relief, not to mention the physical advantages of daily activity.
Regular walks offer various advantages for dogs as well—they become calmer, more balanced, and cope better with the waiting time until the owner returns from work. It reduces the likelihood of them becoming aggressive or dominant. Regular walking is the key to a healthier well-behaved dog.
….. rushing home from work, grabbing the dog, tossing them into the car, and hurrying to the dog groomer:
that’s not a good idea!
Why is it important for the dog to walk before grooming?
If you pick up the dog and take them to the groomer, the dog,
in the best case,
-will be excited and happy because it means they are going for a walk.
In the worst case,
-they will be excited because it means they are going to the vet.
Neither scenario is ideal because, in both cases, the dog would like to go to the bathroom, which they cannot do at the groomer’s. They will fidget, get excited, have to stand in one place and try to hold their paws.
After completing the initial significant part of the work, I always let the dogs off the table. I give them a minute to relax before continuing with the remaining tasks. This is when the dogs usually calm down, enabling us to proceed more peacefully. Don’t forget, taking your dog for a walk before going to the dog groomer is the best thing you can do for your dog and, incidentally, for the groomer too. It allows them to prepare the dog’s haircut on time, making everyone happy.
