Many pet owners mistakenly believe that they can fulfill all of their pet’s grooming requirements in their own homes. While this is certainly true of some of the most basic aspects of the grooming process, such as brushing out your pet’s fur, other fundamental elements require the skill and precision of an experienced groomer.
As a dog groomer and a housewife, why I don’t recommend grooming your dog at home? Aside from the cost factor, I acknowledge that. But after bathing a dog (1 hour), it is customary to do a thorough cleaning in the bathroom, and we also tend to bathe ourselves. (0.5 hours) Cleaning, even if you count on just a small bathroom, doing a thorough cleaning including all surfaces and every piece of furniture can indeed take 2-3 hours for a professional cleaner, this all together 3.5-4.5hours, how long does it take you to do a thorough cleaning in your bathroom take? Dog grooming usually takes 1.5-2 hours in my salon.
Here are some of the most common key services provided by professional pet groomers.
- Bathing. Overbathing your pet is detrimental to the health of his skin, often drying it out and causing irritation. However, in addition to bathing your pet on his visit, I will give recommendations to your dog that will support healthy skin.
- Brushing. Proper brushing has many unique benefits. Not only does it remove any matting or tangles from your pet’s fur, but it also removes dirt, dandruff, and dead hair, and stimulates the production of natural oils that give your pet’s hair that glossy shine associated with good health. Brushing also provides an opportunity for you to inspect his skin for any abnormalities such as rashes, swellings, or parasites.
- Cleaning Ears. Ears are a delicate part of your pet’s anatomy and thus should be treated with extra care. Some animals are particularly susceptible to ear-related problems such as infections and parasites like mites, especially those breeds of dogs with long, floppy ears. I can do a thorough check on the health of your pet’s ears while giving them a thorough clean.
- Cleaning eyes. The hair around the face of your furbaby can grow quite long, and sometimes it can irritate his eyes, causing problems such as infection. Due to the location of these hairs, your pet must be still for these hairs to be trimmed. I have five years of experience so it is no problem for me.
- Trimming nails. Animal claws can grow very quickly, and if not trimmed regularly, can cause you, other members of your family, or even the dogs themselves serious injury. Again, trimming requires your furbaby to be extremely still, but in some cases, I will need your hand to make this process as quick and safe as possible for your pet.
- Cleaning teeth. Proper dental care is just as important for your pet as it is for you, and good oral health can protect your beloved animal from a range of unpleasant symptoms and even some general health conditions. If your groomer offers pet dental cleanings, you should find out more about this service. You have to know, that if you do not brush your dog`s teeth regularly only one dental care won’t solve the problem.
- Frequency. The exact frequency with which you should ideally take your dog to the groomers can vary and is largely dependent on the length and thickness of your pet’s fur. The recommended frequency varies between 4 weeks and 12 weeks, depending on your dog’s coat type and your preferences.
If your dog sleeps with you in your bed, or you want a constantly pretty dog I recommend 4 weeks
If your dog is live outside, then I will recommend grooming every 12 weeks. Grooming includes more than just bathing, it involves health checks ear cleaning, and nail clipping. This frequency is recommended not only by me but also by most Veterinarians for the well-being of dogs.
