De-Matt / Shaving Policy
All of Angigrooming services adhere to and go beyond The Animal Welfare Act 2006,
which states that it is an offense to cause animals pain or discomfort and we reserve the
right to refuse to do anything we think may be detrimental to your pet’s well-being.
Be assured that at Angigrooming, we will always put your dog’s welfare first
When a dog is presented to us in a severely matted condition – at the front of our mind will
be the dog’s welfare before vanity. Our policy is to shave the whole coat using electric
clippers with a closed blade. We consider shaving an act of kindness – this will be
discussed during your consultation. We would not go excessively short without your
express permission. We will NEVER attempt to de-matt an elderly/infirm or aggressive
dog – Thank you for your understanding.
Matting leads to many skin conditions:
Eye and Ear Infections
Flea Infestation
Fungal & Bacterial Infections
Hot Spots & Sores
Maggot Infestation
Mites & Lice
Moist Eczema
Severe Itching
Skin Rash
Urine and Faeces Scalding
Yeast Infections
If you require help and advice on how to care for your dog between grooming
sessions, please do ask. We will be more than happy to help.
When de-matting is necessary, both by tools or clipping; removing heavily matted coats
includes the risk of nicks, cuts, or abrasions due to warts, moles, or skin folds trapped in
the mats. If this happens, it will be brought to your attention, as we are not responsible for
any pre-existing conditions and for any vet bills due to a matted coat. There is no excuse
for a matted pet, and we will do our best to see that the mats are removed without trauma
to the pet. In the case of an emergency, you will be contacted for permission to take your
animal to a vet for treatment. In the case you are unreachable, we will take the action that
is in the best interest of your pet.
Severely matted dogs will incur additional charges for de-matting and/or clipping off the
coat. These charges will vary depending on the time taken for the procedure but can range
from €5 to €35
Excessively matted ears
If the dog has excessively matted ears, please be aware that when the matting is removed
with clippers, as the blood vessels have been previously restricted by the tight matted hair,
sometimes upon releasing this pressure it can cause the blood to rush to the tips of the ears.
To avoid the ‘clip down’
Some owners love to have their dog completely shaved as the dog is in the sea or mucking
around and it suits them. For others that would like to keep a longer trim closer to the
breed standard (or “how they look in the book!”), they need to regularly attend the salon
and be brushed and combed at home. The frequency of salon attendance depends on breed
and coat type, please phone or drop in for advice.
Thank you for understanding that we put your dog`s welfare at first, and we want their
grooming experience to be positive and non-stressful. We cannot justify hours of torture
for the sake of good looks.
Their coat will grow back (quicker than you will think) their skin will benefit from better
air circulation, but most of all YOUR DOG WILL BE HAPPIER.
